Overview

The associate claim adjuster will complete required training and education activities in preparation for a career as a claim professional; provide assistance in accordance with supervisor instructions; and assume increasing responsibility in the handling of claims.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Satisfactorily complete Uniform Training Program.
  • Satisfactorily complete the required Southern Farm Bureau Tech courses.
  • Satisfactorily complete the required Kentucky Farm Bureau sponsored courses.
  • Review loss reports, and confirm coverages as instructed.
  • Conduct prompt and thorough investigations of losses.
  • Promptly evaluate and resolve claims through settlement or denial.
  • Visit agency offices, as instructed.
  • Actively pursue salvage and subrogation recovery.
  • Maintain claim files and update as needed.
  • Report claims as required by claim manual or by supervisory personnel.
  • Maintain adequate reserves.
  • Document claim files to support actions taken.
  • Maintain current knowledge of policy contracts, court decisions, and industry trends.
  • Handle claims in compliance with statutes, regulations, and case law.
  • Complete assignments.
  • Maintain ability to function as an adjuster trainee.
  • Serve as a catastrophe team member or assist in other claim offices or locations as required.
  • Regular, predictable attendance as employee has to physically be in the office.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist and cooperate with Kentucky Farm Bureau and Agency Personnel.
  • Promptly report complaints and respond, as directed.
  • Report immediately receipt of all summonses to supervisor.
  • Report incorrectly rated policies or poor risks to supervisor.
  • Review claim inventory reports, make needed adjustments immediately, and provide initialed copy to district claim manager on a monthly basis.
  • Submit timely and accurate expense reports to district claim manager.
  • Attend and participate in company claim meetings and seminars.
  • Maintain and properly use company facilities, equipment, supplies, and vehicles.
  • Follow company guidelines related to personal use of company vehicles.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Physical demands: Climbing; Driving an automobile or similar vehicle; Mobility; Normal vision/hearing (with or without correction); Sitting; Speaking.
  • Mental demands: Analytic reasoning; Prolonged concentration.
  • Environmental factors: Outdoor conditions; Standard office lighting, temperature and noise; On site inspections of damaged property, such roofs of buildings.
  • Equipment: Automobile or similar vehicle; Camera; Cassette recorders; Personal computers; Telephone systems; Ladder.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree or other equivalent claims experience to acquire knowledge and skills generally equivalent to those possessed by a four year college graduate.
  • Obtain the Commonwealth of Kentucky Independent Adjuster License within six months    of employment.
  • Ability to interpret policy contracts and legal documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make timely decisions.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Good negotiation and public relations skills.
