Overview

The mission of the Intern - Business Research Assistant is to serve Product and Risk Management and other business units by collecting, analyzing, distributing, and reporting information that directly impacts company objectives.  The results of the work products of the Business Research Assistant will contribute to corporate value by advancing profitability, risk reduction, and increased productivity efforts at every opportunity.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collecting information from within company databases to address the needs of the business as they arrive. Creating ad hoc reports and queries utilizing WebFocus data querying tool is a core skill that the Business Research Assistant will learn.  Microsoft Excel will also be used to further dissect and summarize information.
  • Collaborate with coworkers on solutions to simplify and expedite simple requests and repetitive tasks (WebFocus).
  • Performing data output quality assurance to ensure standardized reports are delivered and the content within is accurate.
  • Perform other data collection and distribution tasks as assigned by the Senior Business Research Analyst.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the company’s processes and data.
  • Regular, predictable attendance.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learn Kentucky Farm Bureau data, file structures, and systems to efficiently and effectively retrieve accurate information.
  • Learn insurance products, specifically those of Kentucky Farm Bureau.
  • Exhibit exemplary professional behavior and maintain a collaborative working relationship with co-workers.
  • Properly use and maintain company equipment and supplies.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Physical demands: Normal vision and hearing with or without correction; reading; speaking; sitting; travel; mobility.
  • Mental demands: Analytical reasoning; prolonged concentration; initiative; creativity; able to evaluate and research several elements and alternatives; able to handle multiple projects at one time; close attention to detail; a willingness to work independently or with a team; able to bring closure to issues under consideration; work efficiently, balancing the need for rapid production with high quality standards.
  • Environmental factors: Standard office lighting, temperature, and noise.
  • Equipment: Personal computer; keyboard; telephone; audio/visual projection systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED. Currently enrolled in college level classes.
  • Exhibited interest or coursework in analytical topics.
  • Exhibit a level of comfort, experience in computer software applications (Excel, Querying and Reporting Tools – WebFOCUS, Predictive Modelling Tools – IBM SPSS) or demonstrated aptitude to learn these type of applications quickly.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work as a team member.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
