    Manage daily activities of assigned Regional Claim Office in accordance with agreed upon objectives and goals with an ongoing emphasis on timely service to members and to agencies who service those members and third-party claimants.  Manage assigned Regional Claim Office, including development and maintenance of policies, standards and best practices.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS                                                                                                                        

    • Support the corporate strategy of our commitment to the member relationship.
    • Support the strategic mission of the Claims function as it relates to goals for the organization.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with the agency force and support the agencies through sound and effective claim management practices.
    • Handle all claims in accordance with the provisions of the Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act and in an ethical and compliant manner.
    • Provide prompt, efficient and fair claim service to members and third party claimants.
    • Review and respond to reported claims daily.
    • Review and respond to correspondence on claims.
    • Discuss and recommend action on claims.
    • Review and direct litigated claims daily.
    • Review open claims by territory.
    • Maintain balanced workloads within territories.
    • Maintain fiscal responsibility within the Claims function.
    • Attend departmental/regional staff meetings.
    • Conduct office staff meetings.
    • Review arbitration files.
    • Respond promptly to Department of Insurance complaints.
    • Respond to external complaints.
    • Conduct claim file reviews.
    • Conduct performance appraisals on staff.
    • Review and approve expense accounts.
    • Serve as a catastrophe team member or assist in other claim offices or locations.
    • Regular, predictable attendance as employee has to physically be in the office.

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                                   

    • Interview, hire and train new staff.
    • Participate in the departmental planning process.
    • Enroll and monitor employees in company education program.
    • Maintain current knowledge of law, policies, and industry.
    • Participate in yearly budget preparation.
    • Maintain physical plant, lawn and building.
    • Administer salary program.
    • Serve on committees and special projects as directed.
    • Monitor claim territories and recommend changes as needed to Director.
    • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with field claim staff, Agency Force and Federation staff.
    • Regularly evaluate expenses and seek ways to control and reduce expenses.

     

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS                                                                                                                             

    • Physical demands: Sitting; Driving; Normal vision/hearing (with or without correction); Speaking; Grasping.
    • Mental demands: Reasoning; Prolonged concentration; Ability to make many decisions hourly under internal & external pressure; Ability to perform under high stress.
    • Environmental factors: Standard office lighting, temperature, and noise.
    • Equipment: Automobile; Computer; Adding machine; Telephone.

    Qualifications

    • Combination of formal education, training, and experience to acquire knowledge and skills generally equivalent to those possessed by a four-year college graduate. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Five years above satisfactory performance as a claim adjuster preferred.
    • AIC/CPCU/SCLA preferred.
    • Ability to read and interpret correspondence, legal documents, and Insurance policies.
    • Knowledge of Kentucky law and ability to apply to accidents and losses as required.
    • Ability to make numerous and timely decisions.
    • Problem solving ability; ability to reason.
    • Demonstrates a positive and supportive attitude of company and departmental goals.
    • Demonstrates positive leadership ability.
    • Excellent negotiation and public relations skills.
    • Effective communication skills – oral, listening and written.
    • Sound business judgment.
    • Above average interpersonal skills.
    • Active Kentucky Staff Adjuster License.
    • Valid driver’s license.
