  • Overview

    Primary responsibilities will include reviewing business requirements, analyzing, designing, and developing distributed systems. Familiar with relational database and distributed application concepts. Works with project team members to develop specifications, diagrams, and flowcharts. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.




    • From analysis, codes new programs, modifies existing programs, tests, and documents programs.
    • Analysis and technical design on medium to large efforts of work for new systems or enhancements to existing systems.
    • Takes a lead role in dealing with users in participating in the definition of new systems or enhancements to existing systems.
    • Prepares time estimates.
    • Researches, resolves, and documents incident reports.
    • Prepares technical design and program specifications for others to follow.
    • Participates in development or modification of conceptual, logical, and physical design architectural artifacts (documents, models, etc.).
    • Keeps informed on technology and insurance industry trends and developments.
    • Gives on-call support to production systems during off hours.
    • Performs production reviews.
    • Fulfills administrative reporting requirements.
    • Work in team based environment.
    • Regular, predictable attendance as employee has to physically be in the office.

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES                                       

    • Participates in technical assurance of work assigned.
    • Participates in the analysis, consultation, and action plans for projects based on knowledge of complete system.
    • Participates in code walkthroughs.
    • Contributes to programming standards.
    • Mentors and shares programming techniques with less experienced distributed developers.
    • Evaluates and recommends vendor application and development software.
    • Assists with in-house training classes.



    • Physical demands: Sitting; Normal hearing/vision (with or without correction); 24 hour on-call support on a rotation schedule; working overtime as required.
    • Mental demands: Prolonged concentration; Analytical reasoning; Stress of meeting deadlines.
    • Environmental factors: Standard office lighting, temperature, and noise.
    • Equipment: Personal computer.


    • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.  Computer Science degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 4 years programming experience of which a minimum of 3 years involving analysis.
    • Training in Systems Analysis and Design is preferred.
    • Optimal training/work experience:  Successful completion of IIA general insurance certificate or another insurance course and/or continuing education in another area is desired.[PMW1] 
    • Proficient in Java, JSP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and SQL strongly preferred.
    • Proficient in JEE or Spring MVC preferred.
    • Proficient in JDBC and Hibernate preferred.
    • Proficient in web services, SOAP or REST, preferred.
    • Familiar with IBM WebSphere Application Server or similar environment preferred.
    • Familiar with XML and JSON preferred.
    • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks such as JQuery, Angular, React, or VueJS is a plus.
    • Familiarity with Eclipse IDE is a plus.
    • Familiarity with Agile project methodology is a plus.
    • Demonstrated skills in understanding complete application systems.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills and supportive attitude.
    • Good knowledge of application development process.
    • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and multi-task to meet deadlines.
    • Above average communication skills – verbal, written, and listening.
