This position will assist the Financial Accounting Manager in developing and maintaining accounting systems along with recording and analyzing financial transactions and preparing company-wide information for internal and external financial reporting. Performs complex accounting transactions following appropriate procedures for timely and accurate preparation of reports. Responsible for review and approval of the work product of the Financial Reporting Team and escalating significant matters to the Financial Accounting Manager in a timely manner.
Acquire and maintain in-depth knowledge of statutory insurance accounting as provided by the Kentucky Department of Insurance (DOI) and National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
Acquire and maintain working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, which includes preparation and review of consolidated financial statements and significant intercompany and affiliated transactions.
Ensure that monthly financial reporting results are completed within time frames established.
Assists the Financial Accounting Manager in training the Financial Reporting Accountant positions.
Develops, maintains and documents accounting controls, procedures, workflow and reporting to ensure efficient and consistent applications of accounting functions.
Prepares and reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries.
Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provisions.
Prepares various monthly/quarterly/yearly and ad hoc financial reports, including the identification and investigation of fluctuations and variances in preparation for the monthly board meetings.
Prepares quarterly and annual filings with the DOI and NAIC, including supporting schedules and documentation to satisfy both internal and external audit requirements.
Assists with the implementation of new procedures/projects and improvements due to business change, operational requirements, legal requirements and accounting or regulatory changes.
Develops and maintains critical thinking and analytical skills to identify abnormal trends or anomalies.
Report to management on personnel performance and assist with annual performance evaluations.
Assists in the preparation of Company financial budgets and projections.
Prepares and reviews monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
Regular, predictable attendance as employee must physically be in the office.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field required.
CPA is required.
Experience in full financial close required.
Experience in leading teams and reviewing work is required.
Experience in GAAP accounting, consolidations and affiliated transactions is required.
Experience in insurance accounting preferred.
Minimum of ten years of experience in Accounting.
Effective problem solver, and critical thinker, with sense of urgency.
Demonstrates ability to manage workflow and priorities both personally, and for the financial accounting team.
Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Ability to work well with others, both inside and outside the organization.
Information technology, systems, and/or programming experience/knowledge beneficial
Must be a self-starter and possess strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), QuickBooks, and other general ledger software applications.
