The primary focus of this job will be to support the KFB Agency, LLC. brokerage operations in providing excellent service to the Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company Agency Force in situations where our members’ insurance needs are outside the scope of products offered or underwritten by Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company.  Place new and renewal insurance policies and coverages with various partner companies using experience, judgment, and knowledge of underwriting guidelines.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS                                            

Understand the circumstances in which our members’ insurance needs are outside the product or underwriting scope of Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company.

Maintain a working knowledge of commercial and personal insurance products and markets offered by the brokerage to determine risk placement.

Manage a book of new and renewal business.

Contribute to brokerage profitability through risk selection so as to maintain acceptable quoting ratio, loss ratio, and production goals with various companies.

Assess and inspect risks submitted for coverage by agents. Accept, change, or reject risks based upon guidelines, directives, inspections, and claims information. Use judgment in making decisions outside of published guidelines. Exercise these functions on multiple lines of business.

Responsible for appropriate classification, verification of insurance amounts, and appropriate rating and premium development of risks. Work with agents to determine exposure and appropriate coverages with each partner company’s guidelines.

Acquire and maintain technical knowledge with regard to coverage forms and endorsements, risk identification and evaluation. Use this knowledge in the underwriting and evaluation of risks. Provide underwriting information to agents when requested and answer coverage questions.

Provide a high degree of technical assistance to agents, CSRs, and underwriters on property and casualty markets, products, and coverages.

Assist in the training of agents and brokerage team members in evaluating applications and requests involving underwriting and risk reviews.

Acquire a working knowledge of the features and benefits of brokerage markets, products, and coverages.

Understand Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company property and casualty products in order to identify opportunities to compliment the Company’s product and underwriting scope.

Assist in organizing and executing Agency Force training on brokerage markets and products.

Contribute to the development of brokerage as a sustainable, viable service to Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, our members, and our Agency Force.

Follow established workflow and documentation within the brokerage agency management system. Data entry and data verification required. Customer service goals and processing goals will be provided by brokerage management.

Create and apply premium finance agreements.

Identify and advise brokerage management of potential issues and challenges associated with individual agents, agency offices, and partner companies.

Follow standard of risk selection so as to maintain an acceptable loss ratio with each partner company. Adhere to all brokerage and partner company guidelines to minimize E&O exposure.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES                                                   

Participate as a brokerage representative or team member on corporate projects as needed.

Attend conferences, training classes, events, and meetings, as required or requested by management, demonstrating a high level of professionalism. Develop and maintain industry connections through participation in conferences, training, meetings, and associations.

Consistently demonstrate a high level of professionalism through honesty and integrity, competency, reliability, demeanor, specialized knowledge, organizational skills, accountability, and self-regulation.

Act as a professional representative of the brokerage and Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company by exhibiting our Guiding Principles.

Assist with special projects as required or requested by brokerage management.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS                                                    

Physical demands: Normal vision/hearing (with or without correction); Speaking; Occasional overnight travel may be required both in and out of the state of Kentucky.

Mental demands: Analytical reasoning; Prolonged concentration; Must be able to handle high volume; Ability to work with fluctuating demands on time, attention, and priorities.

Environmental factors: Standard office lighting, temperature, and noise.

Bachelor’s degree or a combination of formal education, training, and experience to acquire knowledge and skills generally equivalent to those possessed by a college graduate.

Two years’ experience with insurance or experience in the independent or captive agency system preferred. Underwriting background preferred. Experience with an agency management system preferred.

Ability to give friendly, clear, and direct written and verbal direction to the Agency Force required. Ability to understand features and benefits of various insurance products required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

Active Kentucky Agent’s property and casualty license required, or must be successfully obtained within 90 days of employment. License must be maintained in good standing while in this position.

Required to successfully complete the Associate in General Insurance designation within 2 full years of employment in this position.

Must be able to analyze and interpret procedures, regulations, instructions, manuals, and other documents as required.

Proficiency at data entry required.
