Overview

This investment analyst position requires knowledge in multiple financial market areas such as fixed income, common stocks, and alternative investment. A strong desire to develop further expertise in the investment process is a prerequisite.  Duties will include both finance and accounting related activities, such as creating investment research, analyzing market data, and resolving discrepancies.

 

Other responsibilities include active participation in market outlook meetings, risk tolerance, trading securities and investment related research duties.  This team member may also help create and organize an economic update for distribution to the Company’s Senior Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

Examine and assess economic and market trends, earnings prospects, financial statements and various other indicators and factors to assist in determining suitable investment strategies.

Become familiar with regulatory requirements and internal investment policy and monitor compliance with both.

Maintain working knowledge of financial regulatory environment (NAIC, Kentucky Department of Insurance, etc.) and proactively prepare for pending changes; constantly monitor compliance with regulations and internal policies.

Develop a working knowledge of the Company’s tax model and an understanding of current tax law regarding investments.

Analyze and monitor the various portfolios relative to guidelines and market-based benchmarks.

Participate in the research, sourcing, allocation, and monitoring of investments in alternative asset classes.

Assist in development of economic forecasts and interest rate changes, determining effects on portfolio and adjustment to investment strategy.

Continually improve and add ways to monitor and analyze performance of the fixed income, equity, and alternative portfolios.

Participate in brokerage relationships and develop trading acumen across investment types and always strive for best execution.

Document all investment purchases and sale transactions for a monthly report to the Board of Directors.

Prepare a variety of other internal and external management and regulatory reports.

Validate and reconcile investment related data on financial statements.

Strive to adhere to industry standard professional conduct and code of ethics.

Work in partnership with the other investment team members to ensure key responsibilities for all roles are adequately covered for business continuity and backup purposes. 

Highly motivated self-starter, able to thrive with limited supervision.

Regular, predictable attendance as employee must physically be in the office.

Equipment:  Bloomberg System; Keyboard; Telephone; Calculator.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

Minimum two years’ experience in investment roles and developing investment strategy, preferably in insurance or banking.

Proficiency in standard software such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as multi-faceted accounting and financial systems capability and ability to learn new systems as required.

Evidence of specialized training in the financial markets.  Advanced degree or FINRA series 7,63,65 licenses are helpful.

Desire to obtain further education or accredited certifications.

Basic understanding of asset allocation and cash flow analysis is required.

Appropriate knowledge of investments, modern portfolio theory, financial concepts, accounting theory, and related terminology.

High level of self-motivation and ability to collaborate with others, both internally and outside the organization.

Confident, articulate presence and excellent presentation skills are vital to success.

Ability to keep a positive attitude and work as a team member.

Experience with report writing software is preferred.

Ability and willingness to strictly adhere to Company Investment Policy.
