Overview

Reports to: Communications Manager and Advertising Manager

Job Status: Hourly (15 – 38.5 hours a week)
Pay: $15.00 per hour

Location: On-site at KFB State Office in Louisville, KY
Term: May 2025 to August 2025 (term may be extended by mutual agreement of intern and hiring manager)

 

The Communications Intern will assist the Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance Communications team with writing, creating, curating and distributing a variety of internal- and external-facing projects throughout the summer. The right candidate for this job will be a strong writer and creative storyteller, have an eye for detail as well as an eye for design, good organizational and time management skills, and a desire to work and learn in a team environment. This intern can expect to gain valuable experience in the communications field and will add quality items to his/her portfolio of professional work samples. 

Responsibilities

Assist Communications staff with writing, designing, organizing and/or distributing content for a variety of platforms, including: KFB News Magazine, Life’s Blueprints blog articles, e-magazine content, press releases, social media posts, intranet content, TV monitor displays, historical documentation, and other related opportunities.

Collaborate with our social media team to ideate, concept and create content for KFB Insurance channels: Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube. Assist with monitoring KFB Insurance social media activity. Compile associated analytics data and update monthly tracking documents. Upload and curate library of social media content for agent use.

Provide research assistance and make recommendations for sponsorship-related promotional activities and their associated merchandising needs.

Help department create organizational archive for photos, videos and music files.

Provide photography support for various company events and activities as needed.

Maintain good relations with the company and the public.

Represent the Communications Department in a positive and professional manner.

Provide courteous, helpful response to all requests for assistance.

Regular, predictable attendance as employee must physically be in the office for work.

Job Specifications

Equipment: Computer software; Keyboard; Telephone; Copier.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Currently enrolled in college level coursework. Preferred majors: Communications, Digital Advertising, English, Marketing, or a related field.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel.

Excellent writing, typing, and editing/proofreading skills.

Ability to turn a concept into compelling written content that aligns with KFB’s brand voice and style.

Knowledge of social media trends, best practices, and engagement strategies.

Experience creating engaging content for different social media platforms.

Experience with social media management software preferred.

Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud products preferred (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).

Experience with digital photography equipment preferred.

Excellent human relation skills and self-motivation required.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task projects

Demonstrated ability to handle responsibilities with a high level of professionalism.

Ability to communicate with a high level of skill both orally and in writing.

Ability to make timely decisions.

Ability to act in a confidential manner.
