Overview

Reports to: Vice President, Legal Services

Job Status: Hourly (15 – 38.5 hours per week)
Pay: $18.00 per hour

Location: On-site at KFB State Office in Louisville, KY
Term: May 2025 to August 2025 (term may be extended by mutual agreement of intern and hiring manager)

 

Provide support and assistance to the Legal Services Department by participating in work on a wide variety of legal, governmental affairs, compliance, and cross functional corporate matters. 

Responsibilities

Meet with and/or shadow various members of the Legal Services team to get a basic understanding of the operation of the department and the different functional areas, and the company’s guiding principles.

Assist Legal Services team with any research or clerical assistance needed.

Attend meetings with Legal Services team to get exposure to and assist with projects from various departments of the company.

Attend mediations, depositions and/or examinations under oath with in-house counsel or Special Investigative Unit team as appropriate.

Assist with gathering, analyzing and tracking data and documents for lawsuits and projects.

Assist with the legal contract review and vendor management processes as needed.

Assist with research and analysis on legislation impacting the insurance industry.

Monitor and evaluate administrative regulations as filed.

Attend and monitor interim joint committee meetings with the Kentucky General Assembly.

Assist with the planning of the KFB Insurance Policy Meetings and attend as requested.

Assist internal auditors with compliance investigations and internal audits as appropriate.

Assist with expansion and increased functionality of the electronic storage of legal files.

Assist with regulatory data/information request.

Provide courteous, positive, and helpful responses to all requests for assistance.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential company information.

Regular, predictable attendance as intern has to be physically in the office.

Job Specifications

Physical demands: Normal vision (with or without correction); Reaching and grasping; Reading; Writing, Speaking.

Mental demands: Analytic reasoning; Ability to work under time pressure; Ability to handle multiple tasks; Ability to competently draft appropriate memorandums and complete writing assignments in a professional manner.

Environmental factors: Standard office lighting, temperature, and noise.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. 

Actively enrolled as a college or law school student with a minimum of two years toward a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

One-year experience working in an office or customer service setting preferred.

Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Ability to work with employees at all levels.
