Overview

This generalist manager position requires knowledge and expertise in internal management of corporate bond, equity, or other fixed income portfolios.

 

The holder of this position will play a key role in the development and execution of the investment strategy. This includes research and implementation of investment opportunities, managing risk, as well as compliance with regulations and the investment policy.

 

Other responsibilities include trade execution, selection and monitoring of external managers, active participation in asset allocation strategy, market outlook and risk tolerance discussions, presentations to senior leadership, and participation in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) activities.

Responsibilities

Embrace and display KFB’s Guiding Principles of operational excellence, customer service, connectivity, and championing people.

Examine and assess economic and market trends, earnings prospects, financial statements and various other indicators and factors to assist in determining suitable investment strategies.

Maintain working knowledge of the financial regulatory environment (NAIC, Kentucky Department of Insurance, etc.) and proactively prepare for pending changes; constantly monitor compliance with regulations and internal policies.

Develop a working knowledge of the Company’s tax model and keep abreast of current tax law (regarding investments) to assist in the design of an investment strategy that will maximize after-tax results.

Research investment opportunities and manage the assigned portfolios in accordance with all regulations and the investment policy.

Participate in the research, sourcing, allocation, and monitoring of investments in alternative asset classes.

Document all investment purchases and sale transactions for monthly reports to the Board of Directors.

Assist in development of economic forecasts and interest rate changes, determining effects on portfolio and adjustment to investment strategy.

Continually improve and add ways to monitor and analyze performance of the portfolios.

Maintain brokerage relationships and always strive for best execution.

Serve as backup to all investment area personnel.

Adhere to CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.

Work in partnership with the other investment staff to ensure key responsibilities for all roles are adequately covered for business continuity purposes.

Share responsibility for the performance of at least one asset class and multiple sectors.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field. Advanced degree is helpful.

Minimum 5 years’ experience in internal investment management including contributing to investment strategy and portfolio management, preferably in insurance, banking, or similar institutional settings.

CFA credential or working toward completion preferred.

Proficiency in investment analytics systems such as Bloomberg, PORT, Clearwater, and ability to learn new systems as required.

Thorough understanding of asset allocation, performance attribution, and cash flow analysis required.

Extensive knowledge of investments, modern portfolio theory, financial concepts, accounting theory, and related terminology.

High level of self-motivation and ability to collaborate with others, both internally and outside the organization.

Confident, articulate presence and excellent presentation skills are vital to success.

Ability to keep a positive attitude and work as a team member.

Ability and willingness to strictly adhere to Company Investment Policy.
